Tool Designer

Basic Function

The Tool Designers are responsible for design, detail drafting and function secondary, primary progressive, special tools and special machines.

Organizational Relationships

Reports to Engineering Manager.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Designs and details tools and dies to be used in the manufacture of new production of parts using CAD/CAM software.
  • Responsible for design and function of safety devices, dies, fixtures and special machines.
  • Participates in and has primary responsibility for general housekeeping of design office. This task includes archiving files and reference material organization.
  • Ability to maintain positive working relationships with employees, vendors and customers, etc.
  • Considerable monetary responsibility, since details involve sizable expenditures and result in heavy financial loss. Work received generally by supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as necessary.

Working Environment and Conditions

  • Performs duties in a well ventilated, well lighted and temperature controlled office environment. There is some level of noise with machinery.
  • Due to the nature of this business hearing protection, eye protection and safety shoes are required.

Education, Training and Experience

  • High School education or equivalent.
  • Must be enrolled in Uelner Precision Tools and Dies apprenticeship program or equivalent.
  • Over four years experience.
